? Frequently Asked Questions

What is epoch time?

Epoch time (Unix timestamp) is the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC. It's a universal way computers store dates as a single number, making date comparisons and calculations simpler.

Can I convert between epoch and readable dates?

Yes, the converter works both ways: convert epoch timestamps to human-readable dates/times, or convert calendar dates to epoch timestamps. It handles milliseconds precision for JavaScript timestamps too.

Does it account for timezones?

Epoch time is always in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), but the converter can display the equivalent time in your local timezone or any specified timezone. The underlying timestamp remains the same.

What's the difference between seconds and milliseconds?

Standard Unix timestamps use seconds (10 digits), while JavaScript uses milliseconds (13 digits). The converter handles both formats automatically. To convert, multiply seconds by 1000 or divide milliseconds by 1000.

Why do some timestamps start with 1 or 2?

Timestamps starting with '1' are from 2001-2033, while '2' means 2033+. The first digit indicates the decade since epoch. Current timestamps (2025) are around 1.74 billion seconds.

Is my data safe and secure?

Yes, absolutely! This tool runs entirely in your browser. All data processing happens locally on your device - nothing is uploaded to our servers. Your files and data never leave your computer, ensuring complete privacy and security.
